Mayer Hawthorne has dropped the dapper attire and slapped on the slick look; he’s lost the black-rimmed glasses and now sports a slight Mohawk. We’ve already heard how he’s dipped into disco this time around with “Designer Drug,” and the sonic shift is even more dramatic with his latest single “Her Favorite Song,” which leaves the old-school soul for the contemporary R&B soul. But his new glossy look and soundscape doesn’t come without some humorous quirks. For instance, the Marc Klasfeld-directed video for Hawthorne’s new track seems to be all about serenading the ladies, but as the clip goes on you’ll see the singer is simply being a superb wingman for man’s best friend ”¦ or, um, friends. Mayer Hawthorne’s new album “Where Does This Door Go” is slated for a July 16 release via Republic Records.
