Ears Wide Open: Young Light

1

This is one moment we are more than happy to answer your “Where Are They Now?” query. Michael Feerick is the singer-guitarist in U.K. shoegazers Amusement Parks on Fire, who’ve largely been silent since 2010 or so. Micah Calabrese was drummer, keyboardist and life preserver with Annie Hardy in Giant Drag. Together, they are now Young Light, a duo that, whether by design or necessity, is taking a minimal approach to dream-pop. Feerick recently has split time between the U.K. and Los Angeles, and some of the songwriting was done long-distance. Their debut EP is titled “Great White Arc” for the name of the Chicago studio where the band recorded its music with engineer Jeff Dean. Not to get too guitar-geeky, but anybody who loved Feerick’s tones in APOF will like this, especially the lead track “Rue the Why.” Duogaze? Sure. The video for “Abide” is the handiwork of Joe Hardy.

||| Live: Young Light plays July 29 in support of Nightmare Air at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa.

||| Archivally yours: The other band who played Spaceland that week in 2005 turned out to be pretty good too. Earlier in 2005, Giant Drag. And a gallery from the first Buzz Bands LA show at the Echo.
