The winds of revivalism show no signs of abating. In fact, in the case of Michigan-bred, L.A.-based Mayer Hawthorne, they keep pickup up steam. The singer-songwriter-producer (and recently Bearded One) announced this week that he has a new album on this summer. It’s titled “Tropical Storm Hawthorne,” and the first single “Designer Drug” is a nifty disco-soul number with twinkling electronic flourishes that’s sure to fill dancefloors. Clean-shaven or hirsute, Hawthorne wears his influences well.
