Ears Wide Open: Sister Rogers

sisterrogers2013Los Angeles loves its rock ’n’ roll, and all its shades of pop, but the heart of the city mostly beats to Latin rhythms. And the forthcoming EP “Midnight Sands,” from the local quintet Sister Rogers, offers a sophisticated take on that pulse. The band – guitarist Samuel Aguirre, singer Ericka Sancé, keyboardist Carlos Vides percussionist/trumpeter Ryan Moraga, along with Sam Kauffman-Skloff – began a couple years ago as an acoustic outfit exploring various strains of bossa nova, samba and Latin flavors, eventually plugging in and their sound grew. The EP’s title track is an intoxicating mix of their influences, with Sancé’s vocals smooth and sultry enough to cast a spell over any lounge. No firm release date yet on EP, but stay tuned.
