Ears Wide Open: Crash

As frontman of the Deadly Syndrome, Christopher Richard laid bare his emotions in a plaintive yowl, affecting and at times beautifully naive. The past couple of years he has been contributing his talents to Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros as a singer/multi-instrumentalist, and now, doing business under his nickname Crash, he’s taking his solo turn. Crash’s debut album “Hardly Criminal” will be out next year on Community Music (ESATMZ, Aaron Embry, Soko), and here Richard uses his high-octave talents to become soul man. The gospel-flavored “Motion Animal” comes complete with horns, organ and a Delta blues bass line. Go tell it on the mountain, indeed, because we sure can’t hit those notes.
