Ears Wide Open: Fire At Sea

Fire At Sea

Duos never seem to go out of style, and there’s no need for them to stop producing music especially when members are comprised of Wendy Wang and Evan Slamka. The two long-time friends have recently released music together under the moniker Fire At Sea, and it’s nothing less than stunningly swoon-worthy. Of course, fans of both musicians would only expect the collaboration would produce such melodies and textures. Wang’s solo project the Sweet Hurt stole our hearts with 2008’s “In the Shade of Dreams” and she’s played with numerous bands including the Bird and the Bee, Evan Voytas, Correatown, Juliette Commagere and more. Slamka’s extremely underrated work as Square on Square was a refreshingly beautiful follow-up to the demise of his band Marjorie Fair. With the help of friends Joachim Cooder, Nic Allen Johns, Lem Jay Ignacio and John Rausch, Fire At Sea’s debut EP beautifully burns like something in the wilderness. Songs like “Invisible” with Wang on vocals is as soothing as a lullaby while other tunes such as “Already Lovers” features Slamka’s butter-smooth vocals with Wang’s harmonies floating effortlessly above.
