Bella Darling

Bella Darling may be a new name over on this side of the pond, but she’s already played festivals like Primavera Sound with only an EP titled “Man In Sea” under her belt. Now she is making some noise in her new base of L.A. Although originally from Barcelona, Spain, Darling recorded her debut with L.A.’s very own Andy Clockwise. And the producer isn’t the only name we know around these parts: She’s got Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint) on drums, Maxime Sokolinski (Hologram) on guitars, John Thomas (Captain Beefheart) on keys and George Stanford on horns. The sound on “Man In Sea” is a treat for those who have a soft spot for spaghetti Western-styled folk music. As Darling sings “I would kill pharaohs for you” on the opening track, it’s nothing less than believable – especially when you watch the accompanying music video – and when she coos “You remind me of Marlon Brando,” there’s a sincerity that’s hard to shake off. Bella Darling is sweet as her name suggests, but she’s also got the spunk to keep you on your toes.
