The Lonely Wild have become staples of the scene not just on the strength of their pulse-quickening debut album “The Sun As It Comes,” or their explosive live shows, but because they are so often present. Having paid their dues with years of sweaty club shows, the quintet of Andrew Carroll, Dave Farina, Ryan Ross, Andrew Schneider and Jessi Williams can often be found in those very same clubs, supporting others who are playing their dues. It is with that sense of community that the Lonely Wild pays tribute to another such group, the Henry Clay People, as the Henry Clays go not-so-quietly into the night. (The Henry Clay People, with various members going off to further their education or ensconced in day jobs, play their final show Saturday at Echo Park Rising.)

The Lonely Wild have covered “Rock and Roll Has Lost Its Teeth,” a tune that dates to THCP’s 2008 EP. Says Carroll: “The Henry Clay People are good friends of ours and they’ve become sort of a staple of the Echo Park/Silver Lake music community over the past 10 years. So, when we played with them at what was rumored to be their last show, this past New Year’s Eve, at the Satellite, we decided to pay them a little tribute by covering one of their songs. We chose ‘Rock and Roll Has Lost Its Teeth’ because it’s a fantastic track, and it’s one that we thought we could really dig into and make our own, while still paying homage to the original. We had so much fun playing the tune, we decided to record our rendition at our rehearsal studio at Bedrock, and we’ve slowly worked it into our regular repertoire.” The Lonely Wild certainly do the song justice, and as anybody who’s made Echo Park/Silver Lake a regular hang over the years will testify: As the Henry Clay People go away, a sizable chunk of the scene’s rock ā€™nā€™ roll has lost its teeth.
