Folk is the new rock. Either that or we’re just getting emails from people who own banjos, mandolins, slides and harmonicas instead of bands toting Flying V’s. The latest contenders for your Americana hearts are Orange County Music Awards-packing Jeramiah Red, a quintet who only look like they might hail from the hills of Arkansas. The fivesome of Wes Dickson (vocals, guitar), Ian Cullen (lead guitar, vocals), Travis Ruiz (harmonica, percussion), Tim Miller (bass) and Matt Pleskacz (drums) make big-hearted, revved-up roots rock that’s sure to appeal of fans of early Delta Spirit. Their boot-stomping single “Oh Pardon Me” comes from their new EP “The Winter Tick,” recorded with Jon O’Brien at the Music Box Studios in Irvine. The release follows 2011’s “Ghost Tracks from the Getty,” which placed Jeramiah Red squarely in the classic rock neighborhood once populated by the likes of fellow Orange Countians Dusty Rhodes & the River Band. Today, the band is celebrating its release by playing a show on a boat party in Long Beach Harbor. Which is novel – but not quite as novel as having a drummer who packs a six-shooter. [See the video.] Yeah, Jeramiah Red play like they’re not to be trifled with.
