Long Beach art-rockers Repeater are turning the page. The quartet of Steve Krolikowski, Rob Wallace, Alex Forsythe and Matt Hanief raged like post-punkers from the glory days on their last full-length, 2011’s “We Walk From Safety,” but their new “Golden Ships” EP is much more contemplative, atmospheric affair. The songs from the EP were actually recorded in 2011, and Krolikowski writes on the band’s Facebook page, “This is the last recording with the core members of Repeater as a group.” More down-tempo and contemplative that the 2011 album and its predecessor, 2008’s “Iron Flowers,” the soundscape-y “Golden Ships” proves lyrically and sonically evocative in a way the quartet – for all their proper influences – never quite achieved when they had things turned up to 11. Whatever Krolikowski has in the works next bears watching.
