Sometimes all you need is a smooth voice and a melody that bends and sways to the groove. L.A.’s Leftover Cuties do jazz-pop that’s sweet as pie but strong as whiskey – a reminder that not everything has to be rough and scuzzy. With chanteuse Shirli McAllen’s silky vocals gliding between brushed drums, upright bass, ukulele and more, it’s no surprise that Leftover Cuties have come back strong with “What’s the Matter,” a bittersweet ballad written during a power outage where McAllen longed for harmony in her life again. The track is from Leftover Cuties’ sophomore album “The Spark & The Fire,” which is slated for a July 23 release.
