Stream: Hands, ‘Brave Motion’

hands-squareFar be it from us to nitpick anybody’s release strategy, but in teasing their forthcoming full-length debut, L.A. quartet Hands leaked two songs before finally unveiling the new version of “Brave Motion” this week. Make no mistake, “Brave Motion” is the single, folks – the best entrée into the deliriously polyrhythmic, densely textured and vocally acrobatic music on the foursome’s debut album “Synesthesia” (due April 30 via Kill Rock Stars). Over insistent synths and tricked-up rhythms, singer Geoff Halliday cries that “It makes no sense,” but “Brave Motion” does – nothing against “Trouble” or “The Game Is Changing Us,” mind you. “Synesthesia” is not color-by-numbers electro-pop; it’s a complex maze of sounds and emotions. As we suspected when we premiered the early version of “Brave Motion” way back in 2010, it was worth the wait.
