Since their first U.S. tour last March that saw them playing 300-capacity rooms, the 1975 have enjoyed a rise in popularity that can only be described as meteoric (they even opened for the Rolling Stones). Their relentless touring  behind their year-old debut album has seen the Manchester band (Matt Healy, Adam Hann, Ross MacDonald and George Daniel) visit the U.S. a number of times in addition to their sold-out European and U.K. tours. Even with the April release of a 39-track “deluxe edition” of the record, fans were clamoring for a taste of new music from the atmospheric alt-pop band, and they got their wish when they wrote the new song titled “Medicine” for a Zane Lowe-curated re-score of the Ryan Gosling film “Drive.” While their singles “Chocolate,” “Girls,” and “Heart Out” sound so ’80s-John Hughes-movie-soundtrack that it hurts, “Medicine” finds the band returning to the dreamy, chilled-out melodies that were present on the four EPs they released in 2012-13. If their massive amount of success over the past year and a half is any indicator, by the time their sophomore album is out, they could be headlining arenas.
