Stream: Deep Sea Diver, ‘One by One’

“I’m love with every emotion,” Jessica Dobson sings in “One by One,” the latest from Deep Sea Diver, a clarion call to embrace life’s every peak and valley … “before it’s gone.” The song is jaw-dropping in its complexities – haunting ooh-oohs, shifting rhythms, shreddy guitars, the big, emotive chorus – and offers yet another example (along with Deep Sea Diver’s 2012 album “History Speaks”) that Dobson and her work with bandmates Peter Mansen, Garrett Gue and Elliot Jackson should not be overlooked. Dobson, of course, is a SoCal native who signed a record deal as a teenager, resisted being pigeonholed and eventually departed to launch a career that has seen her freelance as a player with Beck, the Shins and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. “One by One” is from the Seattle band’s new EP, “Always Waiting,” due Sept. 2. Don’t try this at home, kids.
