Video: Tapioca & the Flea, ‘Take It Slow’

Tapioca & the Flea’s cherub electro-pop has been a work in progress for about three years now, since Samuel Jacob-Lopez busted out of Orange County with three pals, a synthesizer and a pocket full of woozy melodies. Now the latest single from Jacob-Lopez (along with guitarist Ronnie Watson, bassist/keyboardist Frank Alva and drummer Matt McClanahan) is being issued on a split 7-inch single (free with a purchase) on Record Store Day, which is this Saturday. The tune, “Take It Slow,” produced by Crystal Castles’ Ethan Kath, is titled “Take It Slow,” which defies its title over a brisk, hooky three minutes. The new video for the song is the work of ENDS, the collaboration between Daniel Iglesias Jr. and Zack Sekuler, who worked with the Neighbourhood on their videos for “Afraid” and “Sweater Weather.” With quick-cuts to both extremes in a volatile romance, it suggests that moving fast is not always the way to go.
