L7 9

The second-best thing about L7’s sold-out reunion show Thursday night at the Echo was that it wasn’t packed-to-the-gills sold-out. Which meant there was room to move and air to breathe for the very best thing about the show: That L7 reunited at all. Playing their first show in 18 years in preparation for a summer of touring, the ’90s mavericks tore through 18 songs, hair flying, wisecracks crackling and meaty riffs hitting home. The quartet of Donita Sparks, Suzi Gardner, Jennifer Finch and Dee Plakas seem to hardly have lost a beat. Their set plumbed the depths of their third album — they played nine songs from 1992’s “Bricks Are Heavy,” including “Shit List” to finish the main set and “Pretend We’re Dead” during a three-song encore that included 1990’s “American Society” and “Fast and Frightening.”
After touring Europe in June, L7 returns to L.A. for dates at the Fonda Theatre on July 16 and 17.
