If we had a buck for every recent press notice that touted “your new favorite psych-rock band,” we could buy enough psychedelics to be trippin’ for the summer. Based on their new single “Golem,” though, L.A. five-piece the Ambient Light might be a contender. From their roots as a post-rock band, the San Gabriel Valley-bred quintet — singer-guitarist Steven Martinez, guitarist-singer Christopher Alvarez, bassist Steve Lizarraga, keyboardist Michelle Carrasco and drummer Daniel Jurado — have set out for dreamier territory. A taste of the full-length “I Want to Exist” due this summer — a follow-up to 2013’s “Nostalgia Trip” — “Golem” eschews droney din in favor of a meandering arrangement, loud/soft dynamic and dramatic segues from fuzzed-out guitar blasts to sweet-n-spacey vocals.
