Leading up to the release of his next project, La Habra’s Wes Period has already dropped a pair of smooth new tracks this year. “Lilac Rose” was crafted by frequent collaborator Colin Baylen, chopping up soul samples over a boom-bap beat, while Wes trades verses with Houston’s Fat Tony about respective playful seductions, rapping with ease and dropping lines like, “You beautiful lilac rose, let’s spend all winter in our swimming clothes.” “The End,” however, rides a lumbering bassline that sounds like an alarm, produced by Pinky And The Brain, and features Olivver The Kid on the hook, with Wes coming out strong, spitting, “Close your eyes and imagine all the people / I wonder if John Lennon imagined being a Beatle / Cuz way back we were driving in the Regal / With the roof lining falling, I had dreams of being regal,” to kick the track off, switching his cadence and flow up throughout, and closes it with a dark and modulated outro. In addition to some upcoming collaborations, Wes is expected to drop a new single and video later this month, and put out a full-length album this summer.
