Shy Girls, née Dan Vidmar, is a 27-year-old singer and producer from Portland whose first EP, “Timeshare,” was released last year on the L.A. label Hit City USA. Since then, he was toured with Haim and Little Dragon, while continuing to refine his own take on the modern alt-R&B vibe, including a haunting cover of Brandy’s “Sittin’ Up In My Room” earlier this year punctuated by eerie shotgun blasts. His latest work is “Renegade,” the first track to emerge from his forthcoming full-length. Beginning with a synthesized harmony’s slow simmer, the beat drops at the first chorus, with Vidmar seductively crooning, “You’ve been on my days like you’re tryina get me honest / Sticking on my head like I’m tryina get upon it / F*ck me like a rockstar, let me keep the honor / Show me to my bed like an usher to the altar,” like The Weeknd but with confidence, over percussion built on booms and rattles before it swirls to a close. The debut album from Shy Girls is expected in early 2015.
