Video: Peals, ‘Lonestar’

If we didn’t name drop William Cashion (Future Islands) and Bruce Willen (Double Dagger) you would likely pass over Peals as just another band you’ve never heard of. Like their revered bands, Peals is emotive and textured, harping on intimacy and the gentleness of electric guitar picks. The Baltimore-based duo tethered to Thrill Jockey (where both of their other bands got their start) to release the “Walking Field” EP in 2013, an eight-song, slow-motion workout of lonely melodies and familiar sonic qualities. Although feedback and walkie-talkie improvisation aren’t as prominent in “Lonestar,” the song carries organic crackles and totes their stripped-down compositions. The video, credited as “featuring Bobby” and directed by Scott Braid, compliments the track with long takes and slow pans that enhance the haunting dearth surrounding the river-dancing trio. While 2015 is slated for a two-song cassette release titled “Seltzer” you can bide the time by watching their other perfect visual pairings on their website.
