Video: We Were Promised Jetpacks, ‘I Keep It Composed’

Don’t let the title of We Were Promised Jetpacks’ new album “Unravelling” fool you. The album, the Scottish rockers’ third, and out this month via FatCat Records, brings a wealth of indie hooks, punchy guitars, emotive vocals and a booming rhythm section, all tightly packaged for maximum effect. The band started as a group of students living together in Glasgow in 2008, and original members singer-guitarist Adam Thompson, guitarist Michael Palmer, bassist Sean Smith and drummer Darren Lackie (drums) have added an extra mate for the new record, multi-instrumentalist Stuart McGachan, rounding out their wall-of-sound. Recorded with Paul Savage, who has worked with the who’s-who of Scottish acts (Franz Ferdinand, Teenage Fanclub, Mogwai, the Twilight Sad), the new single, “I Keep It Composed,” is accompanied by the release of the first in a series of three music videos created by Ben Cowie (dba Wake Up Advice). The video follows a man, played by Jonathan McGarrity, who wakes up in the aftermath of an explosion (sucks to be him) and is obviously struggling to keep it together – a proper fit for “I Keep It Composed.” Can we send in a rescue team with jetpacks?
