Twilight Concert Series, so sorry to see you go. Charles Bradley, so great to hear you giving the annual summer series at the Santa Monica Pier a proper sendoff. Bradley, the 65-year-old late bloomer whose two full-lengths on Daptone Records have put him on the vanguard of the soul revival, spread some good cheer to a big crowd at the beach on Thursday night for the 10th and final Twilight Concert of the summer. New Orleans’ King James & the Special Men set the tone for the night with a Crescent City-flavored set of R&B. Here’s what it looked like to contributing photographer Carl Pocket.
