Free concerts, record-release parties, music legends … a thriller of a Thursday:

The Twilight Concert Series at the Santa Monica Pier kicks off with indie acts Cults and James Supercave. Free and all-ages, the festivities start at 7 p.m. Above, Cults’ video for “High Road.”
‣ Legendary singer-guitarist Richard Thompson visits Levitt Pavilion MacArthur Park as part of its free Summer Music Series. (8 p.m.)
X kicks off a four-night run of album shows at the Roxy Theatre.
‣ The free Made In L.A. summer music series at the Hammer Museum kicks off  with a night hosted by L.A. bael Innovative Leisure, featuring a live set from disco-punk outfit De Lux.
‣ Baltimore’s indie-folk band Wye Oak plays the El Rey Theatre behind their latest album “Shriek.” Pattern Is Movement opens.
‣ Rock quartet A House For Lions celebrates the release of its debut album “Hills So High” at the Echo, supported by Filligar and the Peach Kings.
Miles Tackett marks the release of solo debut album “The Fool Who Wonders” with a show at the Bootleg HiFi. Mexico68 and Luther Russell support.
‣ At at the Egyptian Theatre, there’s a special screening of the documentary “20,000 Days on Earth,” followed by a discussion with and a solo piano performance by its subject, Nick Cave.
