Singer-guitarist-sonic explorer Tim Presley has enjoyed tsunami of productivity since launching his solo project White Fence in 2010. Presley, of course, was the co-founder of Darker My Love (whose three albums of noisy popgazing sound strangely ahead of their time these days), and White Fence saw Presley tangling up emotions in under-produced but overabundant ’60s garage-rock – of the psychedelic, surf, droney, sun-baked, twangy, you-name-it variety. White Fence has released a solo album per year since, not counting “Hair,” his 2012 collaboration with Ty Segall, but counting the gobsmacking 29-track “Family Perfume Vol. 1 and 2” that same year. After last year’s hit-and-miss “Cyclops Reap,” Presley has a new album en route that sees him reuniting with Segall, this time with Segall producing. “For the Recently Found Innocent,” out July 22 via Drag City, ratchets up the fidelity (though not too much) and highlights Presley’s seemingly inexhaustible flair for melody and instrumental surprise even as he largely abides the format of the three-minute pop song. “Like That,” “Arrow Man” and “Anger! Who Keeps You Under?” are so good you can’t believe some luminary didn’t write them in the ’60s. White Fence makes it all sound fresh in 2014.
