When the Open Feel hit our eardrums with their self-titled EP in 2011, it was a tidal wave of ’90s nostalgia thanks to their combination of shoegaze and roaring rock. However, Katie Harris and Tom Brayton don’t just flash back or wear their influences, they’ve revitalized it with dream-pop in the cleanest manner. The duo has never been a band to embellish their tunes with unnecessary frills; Harris provides the sultry vocal melodies while Brayton keeps new songs such as “”Wake This Dream” driving with his percussion and heavy bass lines. The fundamentals are there, and each element has grown stronger with every single. When all your friends and their mothers start blasting the Open Feel on their favorite alternative station soon, don’t say we didn’t tell you so.
