For all the mussing and fussing that transpired before the Growlers finally released their new album “Hung at Heart” in January, the SoCal quintet is wasting no time with a follow-up. Their “Gilded Pleasures” EP will be out Nov. 12 (on Everloving Records); it’s a nine-song affair recorded in Topanga Canyon in two weeks. The EP, says frontman Brooks Nielsen, is “simple and soulful and reminds me a lot of the early Growlers that a lot of our new fans never got the chance to hear.” It’s true, “Humdrum Blues” would have easily fit on “Are You In or Out?” back in the dark ages of 2009, but it’s never particularly been about invention for the surf-goth agitators. It’s about waiting for the next wave.
