Breakfast

Here’s a band to go along with your sunny-side-up eggs. L.A. quartet Breakfast – Andrea Adolph, Max Bussell, Sean Dwyer and Luciano Russo – make the kind of music that jolts you like that morning cup of coffee. Breakfast’s buoyant beats sparkle underneath Adolph’s bright vocals in songs such as “Only Way to Go”  and “Grizzly Adams.” Others like “Scarred,” off of their debut “Sun/Moon,” showcase her vocal chops even further. Her range ebbs and flows with the band’s atmospherics, which can offer anything from a synth-pop anchor (“Dubai”) to a twinkling piano foundation (“Valsa Triste”). Adolph and Russo’s vocals also playfully tug back and forth between verses on tracks such as “The Park” to mix it up throughout the record.  Breakfast, whose name came from the fictional band Bussell and his brother created as children, carries a sound that is youthful, but there is also an admirable audacity within their arrangements.
