‣ GV30 – the Goldenvoice/Gary Tovar celebration of 30 years of Los Angeles punk – kicks off three big night at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium with Social Distortion, X and the Adolsecents.
‣ Guitar virtuoso Charlie Hunter (pictured), on tour with drummer Scott Amendola, starts a two-night stand at the Mint behind his new release “Public Domain,” a collection of his interpretation of classics dating back to the 1930s and beyond.
‣ Two L.A. indie-rock bands that figure to show up prominently on the 2012 radar, Superhumanoids and Papa, play the Echo, along with San Diego rockers Writer.
‣ Indie rock quintet Vanaprasta leads the party at the Central SAPC in Santa Monica, joined by Chasing Kings, the Dead Ships and the Muddy Reds.

Plus a bounty of benefit shows:

‣ The first of two nights in the 10th Annual Hohotel Holiday Benefit Shows benefiting the L.A. Fire Dept.’s Spark of Love Toy Drive boast a lineup of Joshua Radin, Priscilla Ahn, Gary Jules, Meiko, Rocco DeLuca, Laura Jansen, Brother Sal and more.
‣ Night 2 of the Invisible Children benefit at the Troubadour features the Mountain Goats, Eric Johnson of the Fruit Bats and Andy Cabic of Vetiver, Ivan & Alyosha, La Sera and NO.
‣ The Crash Kings, Cary Brothers and Bleu play the big WhyHunger “Imagine” Benefit Concert at the Hard Rock Hollywood.
‣ And the Belle Brigade, Harlan Silverman and Oh Darling team up at the Satellite to play a show benefiting PATH.
