Premiere: Rademacher, ‘Honestly’

Primer: “Baby Hawk (Part I of III)”

Everything about Rademacher’s ambitious trilogy “Baby Hawk” seems to spell gloom. The sometimes-Fresno- and sometimes-Silver Lake-based indie rockers are taking on the trials and tribulations of being indie rockers in a three-album series (revolving around the mythical band Baby Hawk). Topics on the table: artistry, careerism, “success,” integrity, deceit, hope, dreams, frustration, bitter frustration and abject despair. On Oct. 4, Rademacher releases “Baby Hawk (Part II of III),” which is less anecdotal and more conceptual than the first installment. Frontman Mike Mancillas, aka Malcolm Sosa, though, is a formidable bard of barbs, and while the off-kilter synth line and spiky guitars of “Honestly” aren’t the stuff of which singles are made, it’s a vital part of a narrative that’s worth following to the end.
