Like most of the songs on their debut “Pickin’ Up the Pieces,” we adore Fitz & the Tantrums’ “Don’t Gotta Work It Out.” But the video for the song makes us long for the days of the band’s black-and-white performance clips. Did somebody shuffle the storyboards, or what? What’s with the briefcase? The feathers? The bicyclists? The women behind bars? The band breaking into a trot at 2:42? (We’ll take Noelle Scaggs in that race, thank you.) And Michael Fitzpatrick getting hosed down in the end? Are these whimsical homages to something we’re not getting? Oh well, at least the video premiered on VH1 where nobody will see it.
