[New songs from bands we’ve previously posted about ”“ take these tracks along with you wherever you may be going (or staying) this holiday weekend…]

Soft Pipes, “Sleeper” (via Pac-Sun) ”“ Anthony Polcino hasn’t been sitting still since his days as guitarist of Low vs. Diamond. In fact, he’s drawn quite a bit of attention for his new project Soft Pipes. During the short time between the release of their debut album “When You’re Done Here You Get to Go Home” and the new “Stay Pretty” EP (slated for a Sept. 27 release), Soft Pipes’ soundscapes have already acquired some new textures, and we’re happy trying to keep up with them.

Death Kit, “Draw Blood” ”“ August Brown’s electro-pop outfit returns with a new lineup and an excellent new track. “Draw Blood” still features those forlorn vocals heard in “I Can Make You Love Me,” but the dance beats pulse even stronger and louder than they did in “Devadasi.” Death Kit plays a free show on Monday, Sept. 5, at Bootleg with Young Hunting and Paper Angels.

Handshakes, “Ridge” ”“ Newly signed to Old Flame Records, the label that houses other Buzz Bands favorites such as Letting Up Despite Great Faults, Handshakes has taken the meaning of “rising from the ashes” to another level. For a group of musicians from some good bands who unfortunately saw their demise during beginning of the millennium, Handshakes currently have a firm grip on songwriting that yields refreshingly sticky, intricate, pop music. The guitar lines and hand claps alone in “Ridge” are bound to stay stuck in your head all day, if not for the entire weekend.
