Welcome to September:

‣ KCRW’s summer-long Twilight Dance series at the Santa Monica Pier is winding down; tongiht’s free show features Malibu-bred quartet Dawes headlining, supported by Sonny & the Sunsets and Olio.
‣ Janet Jackson brings her “Number Ones: Up Close and Personal Tour” to the Greek Theatre, where she will do material from her hit-laden “Number Ones” album and, as she has done on each tour stop, dedicate one of those songs to the host city. In L.A., it’s “Scream.”
‣ Seattle’s Bryan John Appleby, the folk storyteller whose band includes Luke Messimer (formerly of the SoCal band Mississippi Man), visits the Bootleg Theater, playing with Infantree and Preacher’s Sons. Prior to the Bootleg show, Appleby will play a 5 p.m. in-store at Origami Vinyl.
‣ Local trio Also hits the Silverlake Lounge behind their new album “Music Belongs in the Background.” Repeater and Diamonds Under Fire also play.
Judson McKinney and One Trick Pony rock the Satellite
‣ And Ximena Sarinana does a free in-store at 7 p.m. at Amoeba, and it will be streamed live here.
