Amy LaVere may look familiar if you’ve noticed her acting in films such as “Walk the Line” and “Hustle and Flow.” However, her most charming method of telling a story is through her Americana-pop. The singer-songwriter from Memphis, Tenn., follows up her album “Anchors & Anvil” (produced by the late Jim Dickinson) with “Stranger Me,” a record full of disarming anti-love songs that capture her ability to further explore textures and juxtaposition. Produced by Craig Silvey, who took part in mixing Arcade Fire’s “The Suburbs,” her latest collection of songs are elegantly dissonant with some songs paired with upbeat and off-kilter instrumentation and others with rich yet haunting melodies underneath her bright vocals. We’d never know LaVere was singing about another breakup in the merry tune “You Can’t Keep Me” until we hear lyrics like “I don’t need this kind of love for any kind of heartbreak resumé.”
