There are so many shows to recommend tonight my recommending muscles are tired:

‣ It’s not often a guy who’s won a Kennedy Center Living Legend Award visits the Echoplex, so tonight’s show with  Jimmy Scott ought to be special. With a career spanning more than six decades, the 85-year-old vocalist has performed with most of jazz’s greats, crossed over and worked with pop and rock standouts and has the distinction of having sung at two presidential inaugurations – 40 years apart (Eisenhower and Clinton).
Daniel Johnston plays the El Rey Theatre along with the guy who produced his great 2009 album, “Is And Always Was,” Jason Falkner.
Fitz & the Tantrums return to L.A. for a sol-out show at the Music Box, with Graffiti6 opening.
Soundgarden and the Mars Volta rock the Forum.
‣ Hey, it’s Dolly Parton at the Hollywood Bowl.
The Elected visit the Echo behind their latest album “Bury Me in My Rings,” with the Lonely Wild and Whispertown supporting.
Ty Segall plays the Center for the Arts in Eagle Rock; get there early for Tijuana Panthers.
Indians celebrate the release of their self-titled album at the Viper Room, where Har Mar Superstar also bring the party.
Vanaprasta delivers a free show at Universal CityWalk
‣ And Alpine Decline celebrates the release of their album “Disappearance” at Pehrspace.
