Premiere: Duniven, ‘Stars Far Above’

“Darling, I love you” – it’s an honest, time-honored declaration, and as the clarion chorus of “Stars Far Above,” the first single from the new L.A. sextet Duniven, it feels like a mission statement. In his new persona as Duniven, frontman Patrick Thomas moves away from the Britpop-influenced churn of his previous band, the Capshuns, and into the familiar, roomy space defined by the likes of Dylan and Petty. Duniven’s new batch of girl-obsessed songs, informed by some post-Capshuns health problems and a good bit of soul-searching, will emerge on the album “Take My Hand” later this year. Recorded with Manny Nieto and Shane Smith in Nieto’s Estudio, it features contributions from Jason Borger and Chris Vargas. If Americana is your comfort food, this could be a tasty dish.
