In 3 or Fewer Words: Spoonful of sugar
I’ll Remember This Forever Because: Spoon tipped the piano over and boy did it hurt my ears. Spoon has never been this writer’s favorite. They’re a little too safe, sweet indie rock that your mom can understand. They’re also regarded by many as the superlative indie rock band of the ’00s. It’s not hard to see why: Spoon delivered an artfully crafted set that grooved its way from minimalist pop to a rock ’n’ roll extravaganza complete with horn section. “I Turned My Camera On” and “The Underdog” (which closed the set) were standout, crowd-pleasing numbers. Predictable? Yeah. Pleasurable? Absolutely.
What I’d Tell My Friend Who Was at Jonsi: Don’t give-in to Icelandic Nonsense Syndrome. (Cousin to Swedish Nonsense Syndrome) Rock n’ roll will save your life. Remember?
